Infertility and RPL (Recurrent Pregnancy Loss) are two separate entities that are typically managed in different ways. However, there are similarities between the two conditions. The underlying causative factors are common to a considerable extent in both these conditions. The diagnostic and treatment protocols are also similar for a considerable number of people in these two groups. This becomes more evident in presence of unexplained RPL and unexplained infertility, especially unexplained recurrent implantation failures (RIF). The role of the allo-immune factor is important in both these cases of “unexplained” reproductive failure.
This course on “Simplifying Reproductive Immunology” is the first of its kind we shall comprehensively cover different aspects of the subject and try our best to clarify all concepts.
We will start with a brief discussion about RPL and RIF and then move to discuss the unique features of the immune system. This will be followed by an interesting insight into the immunology of pregnancy and how immunological balance helps to protect it. The failure of this thin line of balance leads to implantation failures. The role of different immunological tests in selecting couples for immuno-modulatory treatments, the diagnosis of allo-immune factors & available therapeutic options will also be discussed in broad detail. Endometrial receptivity array & lab aspects of RIF shall also be dealt with.
At the end of this course, all our trainees will have a detailed overview of various aspects of reproductive immunogenetics and shall be able to apply the knowledge in clinical practice to manage cases well.
